One of our most recent projects allowed us to use one of our favorite accessories, the Mini Basket, for something new and exciting! What was this you ask? A floral arrangement, duh!
The Mini Basket is often used for display and storage, but we want to show you that this piece is NOT a one trick pony. With just a few items you can make a beautiful floral arrangement for your home or event - all housed in our basket!
STEP 1 - CHOOSE YOUR BLOOMS
Choosing which flowers to use is one of the best parts of this process! You can choose any variation of blooms that you'd like. Our only recommendations are as follows:
STEP 2 - FORMAT YOUR FLORAL BLOCK
To begin, cut your floral block into a piece about 3 inches wide by 3 inches long. Floral Block is an important part of this process as it holds the flowers in place and provides plenty of water for the blooms to stay hydrated and fresh. After sizing, place the floral block in a large bowl of water and let soak for 5 - 10 minutes. This will make sure that the floral block is as saturated as possible.
STEP 3 - TRIM YOUR BLOOMS
Trimming your blooms is an important part of this process! When cutting the stems of your flowers, ALWAYS cut at a 45 degree angle. This allows the stems to soak up water from your floral block and stay fresh for a longer period of time.
Secondly, trim your blooms to the appropriate length by eyeing the height at which you want your arrangement to rest. To begin, trim all blooms to a standard 11 inches and adjust the length as you place each flower. This will give you flexibility as you arrange.
STEP 4 - LINING YOUR BASKET
Floral Block is a necessary but not visually pleasing ingredient of this process. Because of this, you will want to disguise the block from being visible through the basket walls. To do so, use extra leaves from your blooms or purchase greenery to weave through the wires of the basket. If you'd like, this step can be done after you have arranged your blooms.
STEP 5 - PLACING YOUR BLOOMS
Begin placing your blooms by general size. The objective is to create a tiered effect by placing the larger blooms in the center and slowly decreasing the size of the blooms as you work your way to the edge of the basket. As you place each flower, adjust the length of the stems accordingly, making them shorter where you see fit. Once the largest blooms have been placed, proceed by filling in open spaces with greenery. This will make sure that there is no negative space in your arrangement!
STEP 6 - FINAL ADJUSTMENTS
Building a floral arrangement is a trial and error process - don’t be afraid to shift the arrangement as you go! Once you finish arranging, we recommend placing a small plate underneath the arrangement to collect excess moisture from the floral block. This will keep your surfaces clean and help the flowers stay fresh for even longer!
